Educators and students may take a summer break, but cybercriminals rarely do. Phishing is most successful when people are distracted, outside their normal routines or juggling competing priorities. Summer schedules, vacations, summer programs and the rush to reopen create exactly those conditions.
To support local awareness from the end of the school year through reopening, the Digital Trust Hub gave members:
- A three-part series of staff emails, timed for early summer, midsummer and back to school
- Two awareness flyers, one for summer and one for the high-risk back-to-school season
- Presentation materials: a short slide deck on common phishing tactics and warning signs, and a single slide to drop into a larger back-to-school professional development session
Districts can use them in newsletters, summer communications, staff meetings, onboarding or back-to-school events.
