Offboarding an edtech vendor is an important step in making sure student and staff data isn’t retained, reused or repurposed beyond the district’s control.
A simple, documented offboarding process also supports the CIS Critical Security Controls, particularly identity management, data management and service provider management. The Digital Trust Hub gave members a short Vendor Offboarding Toolkit:
- A one-page offboarding checklist, so nothing is missed when separating from a vendor
- Sample contract language that strengthens data deletion expectations in future agreements
- A vendor deletion attestation template for formal confirmation that data has been removed
