March 31 is World Backup Day, a reminder to "back up and better protect your data." Data loss is more common than most people think, whether from accidental deletion, device failure or a cyber incident, and a single event can disrupt operations or erase important work.
The Digital Trust Hub gave members resources for staff and for technology teams:
- For staff: short how-to guides and infographics for backing up computers and phones, including authenticator apps, each with a sample email to share them
- For technology teams: a backup and restore testing guide for confirming backups run and data can actually be restored
- For policy: a model data recovery policy aligned to the CIS Critical Security Controls
The month’s message: a backup only matters if it works when you need it.
