Allegheny Intermediate Unit has developed Domain Trust Monitor, a free web-based tool that helps districts and schools make sure the domains they use for email and their websites are properly protected with current security standards. It is available at no cost to every member of the Pennsylvania Digital Trust Hub.
The Hub introduced Domain Trust Monitor to member technology leaders at the March 26 Role Alike meeting, followed by an introductory session for technology teams on April 10.
What it does
Domain Trust Monitor checks whether a district’s email is configured so that bad actors can’t easily send fraudulent messages that appear to come from the organization, a tactic increasingly used in phishing attacks that target school communities. It also watches each domain’s overall health over time and notifies the district’s team when something needs attention, so technology staff can stay ahead of issues rather than reacting to them.
- Daily checks of SPF, DKIM, DMARC and related protections for every domain a district owns
- DMARC reporting that shows every service sending mail on the district’s behalf
- A trust score and plain-language coaching, from unprotected to full enforcement
- Alerts when a record breaks, a policy regresses or a new sender starts failing
The tool requires no software to install, and there are no per-domain or per-seat fees.
